Micklegate By-election on 8 June, 2017
Cllr Julie Gunnell (Labour), who represented Micklegate ward stood down in April 2017, triggering a by-election. York Green Party selected Clementhorpe resident and Green4Micklegate activist Rosie Baker as the candidate for the by-election. We have fought a serious campaign in Micklegate and have done remarkably well given the squeeze in minor party votes that we have seen in the general election which has also had a knock-on effect in the by-election.
We defended the second place, which clearly shows that the Green Party is the main challenger to the Labour party in Micklegate Very positive was also the increased turn-out in the election with more residents involved in this election than last time.
General Election 2017
Following extensive discussion and consideration of the situation in York Central constituency through two members meetings York Green Party had decided to withdraw the Green candidate nomination in order to play our part in securing progressive MPs in Parliament.
