#York City Centre Signage consultation of @theyorkbid

York BID is committed to installing new signage in the city centre to help visitors and residents find their way around.

As part of their Appearance & Environment programme, and in partnership City of York Council and York Civic Trust, they want to provide high quality, useful signage that can be easily updated.

They have looked at schemes in other cities as well as York and drawn up some designs. Now they want the feedback of residents and visitors.

Please go to the link below and spend five minutes completing their wayfinder survey. Your opinions might help to shape the signposting in York for many years to come.

Following the submission of the outline planning application for the York Central development, the York Central Partnership has received a number of questions from residents seeking clarification on some key themes.  To answer these questions they are creating a series updates to provide answers, clarifications and explanations .

The first of these updates is focused on how it is proposed that vehicles, including cars buses and taxis, will move through the site and connect with York’s existing road network:

Book launch @AngelOnTheGreen : “Bishy Road: a #York shopping street in time” from @clemhallhistory #Micklegate BOOK NOW AVAILABLE

Yesterday, Clements Hall Local History Group launchedBishy+Road+book+cover+smaller their new book about the history of the Bishopthorpe Road shops and is now on sale. You can buy it at Clements Hall in Nunthorpe Road or at our local shops: Frankie and Johnny’s Cookshop, Pextons, The Pig and Pastry, Trinacria and Cycle Heaven at the Angel on the Green. Price £5.

“Entitled Bishy Road: a York shopping street in time, it shows how some of our shops have accommodated the same trades for over a hundred years, while some reflect shopping trends as they changed over the twentieth century. We do know that people have very fond memories of the street.

We were very grateful to be supported in this venture by Bishopthorpe Road Traders Association, by the Micklegate Ward Fund, by the Noel Goddard Terry Charitable Trust, and the Yorkshire Architectural and York Archaeological Society (YAYAS). The proceeds from sales will enable us to develop our researches into the history of shops along Nunnery Lane, in Clementhorpe, and in South Bank. Our aim is to produce further publications focusing on those areas.

The book includes a brief history of each of the premises along Bishy Road and the businesses trading from them, with stories from customers and newspaper reports. There are over 60 photographs and some maps, together with excerpts from interviews with traders and from our memory wall.”
