#Micklegate Highway Maintenance Scheme – Temporary closure of Fetter Lane 13/8 to 16/8

City of York Council will be carrying out carriageway maintenance works at Fetter Lane on Monday 13th to Thursday 16th August 2018, (weather permitting), the site extents are as shown on the plan on reverse. The works will be carried out between 8:30 am and 5.30 pm.

The works will consist of resurfacing Fetter Lane and the reinstatement of road markings.

In order to carry out these works safely the use of a temporary road closure from the junction of Skeldergate to St Martin’s Lane/ Trinity Ln will be necessary whilst works are taking place. The closure is to ensure that adequate Health and Safety is maintained for both local residents, the travelling public and the Contractor.

All resident and on street parking will be suspended at these times but any specific access requirements maybe arranged by speaking to the Site Traffic Management Operative who will co-ordinate with residents and business requirements around ongoing construction operations.

Any vehicle remaining on the street during the suspension time may be liable to a parking fine and removal costs. Residents may park in adjacent zones (or nearby Council Car Parks), by displaying their resident letters on the dashboard during this period (if you have not received your resident letter please get in contact with Cllr Kramm (Cllr.lkramm@york.gov.uk).

Emergency services will be permitted through the works in any situation. Cyclists will be subject to the same traffic management as other road user vehicles.

As with any construction work, there is likely to be a certain amount of disruption and inconvenience to the public, however the contractor will try at all times to keep any disruption to a minimum.

Two New #York Central Events announced on 16/8 & 21/8

Policy into practice on York Central

6:00pm – 8:00pm Thursday 16th August
York Explore, Museum Street

York has signed up to a number of policies which reflect the principles and aspirations of local people and their representatives. We are a One Planet city which implies a broad set of principles; we are a Human Rights City and also a UNESCO Creative City. What do these, and other, pledges imply in terms of how we carry out development, and how are they shaping the proposals for York Central?
This will be a workshop session with talks by a number of people who can bring expertise and practical experience to the discussion, who will also be there to facilitate debate and help us finish with concrete next steps which we can take together. Guests will include:-here
Chris Bailey speaking on UNESCO Creative Cities / Liz Lockey speaking about York: Human Rights City / Paul MaCabe on One Planet York

Community-led housing on York Central
6:00pm – 8:00pm Tuesday 21st August
York Explore, Museum Street

Affordable housing was one of the biggest issues from the public engagement at the Festival of York Central. There is a pledge to deliver 20% affordable housing within the development proposals but how can local people take a lead in developing ideas which go beyond this? Can we learn from Leeds Community Homes and Yorspace and look for models of home-building and tenure which open up opportunities to create additional homes which suit the financial (and other) needs of different people? Can we look for ways of providing homes which differ from developers’ standard offer? What about co-housing, shared ownership, self-build?
This will be a workshop session with talks by a number of people who can bring expertise and practical experience to the discussion, who will also be there to facilitate debate and help us finish with concrete next steps which we can take together. Guests will include:-
Jimm Reed – CoHo
James Newton – Yorspace

Central Gallery Drop In session @railwaymuseum 3pm-6pm on WED 25 July & 10.30am-12 noon on SAT 28 July #YorkCentral #York

The National Railway Museum would like to invite you to find out more and share your views about plans to transform the museum as part of the York Central redevelopment.

The museum is committed to providing access. This would be through the new Central Gallery during opening hours. We are still working on the detail of where and how access out of hours will happen and a proposed route has been put forward by the York Central Partnership. The proposed route for pedestrians and cyclists would pass through a safe and well-lit streetscape with a vibrant mix of newly created cafes, restaurants, hotels and green spaces. This area would be buzzing day and night. By creating this new route, the museum would be able to unite the site for the first time, providing level access throughout.
The new Central Gallery created in this space would provide a better welcome and facilities for museum visitors, including local people. It would also enable the museum to remain relevant into the future, plugging the current skills gap and predicted shortfall in engineering graduates, The exciting new space would facilitate the display of the latest technology and innovations from the modern industry. All of this would provide a substantial boost to the local economy.
The museum would love to hear your views to make sure that York Central works both for local residents and visitors from further afield and warmly invite you to come and have your say on these proposals. Come along and talk to colleagues, find out more and share your thoughts and ideas at an exhibition at the museum’s main entrance from 3pm to 6pm on Wednesday 25 July and 10.30am to 12 noon on Saturday 28 July 2018.

There is no need to book, just drop in.

Public consultation on Clean Air Zone for #York

The Council is asking people to share their views on the introduction of a Clean Air Zone for York, to help tackle traffic pollution.

Unlike other parts of the country where a Clean Air Zone is a mandatory requirement, the council is proactively looking to introduce the new zone.

The council is also looking at many ways to improve air quality in the city centre. One of these options is by working with bus operators to apply the proposed Clean Air Zone to local bus services. As revealed by the Third Air Quality Action Plan, local bus services make up a 3% of the traffic but 27% of the main pollutants in the city.
The survey is live at http://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/CAZ-York. Or ask for a paper copy at West Offices.
To find out more about which bus services could be affected, or for more background on this proposal, visit: http://democracy.york.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=733&MId=10195

Consultation closes at midnight on Friday 3 August 2018

What are your views on Neighbourhood Policing in #Micklegate & #York? #NeighbourhoodPolicingSurvey

Policing

The PCC for North Yorkshire has launched a Neighbourhood Policing Survey.  Over recent months, there has been a lot of discussion and comment about the state of neighbourhood policing. The PCC would like to find out how residents feel about their local policing teams. She is therefore running a survey across the area to gather feedback if people would like to see a greater police presence locally, and to understand more broadly what people feel about the service they receive.
The survey runs until Sunday 29 July and she is keen to get as comprehensive a response as possible.

You can find the survey here: https://www.northyorkshire-pcc.gov.uk/how-can-we-help/your-say/consultations/what-are-your-views-on-neighbourhood-policing/
